In spite of the passage in time, am I correct in thinking that under consumer protection law, or trading standards, the installer who supplied the appliance is legally obliged to rectify the problem and repair or replace the dishwasher at their expense?

Hello again. It is the seller who has this obligation, not manufacturer. So it is whoever the contract for supply and fitting of kitchen is with.
