My wife died last week and she had 50 grand in a bank account in her name we have wills but I have heard I might have to go to probate is this true

You should ask the bank but generally if the bank account has more than £15000 knit probate is required. It might be that the bank would make an exception for a husband where the bank account is the only item of estate but you will have to ask them directly. Normally probate will be needed.
