Customer Question

I haven't told my fiance I was previously married.
When we give notice of our intention to marry if I say I'm single when in fact I should say I'm divorced what could potentially happen? Are they likely to find out and pick this up there and then?

Hello,

Making a false statement is a criminal offence and you may need to produce evidence of your divorce when giving the notice. They may not pick it up there and then but there is a very good chance it will be picked up eventually and you could be arrested.

My advice is not to lie and to tell your fiancée about your previous marriage.

How would it likely be picked up later? Just out of interest?
Expert:  UKSolicitorJA replied 3 years ago.
I would say very likely.
