If i set up a free to access web site for the public to find local trades people.Am I liable if anything goes wrong between the member of the public who accesses the trades person for free and the trades person who pays us to advertise on our site.

Not if you make it clear that you are simply an adveriting medium and that the actual contract will be between the customer and the trader.

Your website should contain terms of use similar to these ones: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/common/mytrader/terms-and-conditions.jsp
