Are grandparents who are UK pensioners legally obliged to pay

Resolved Question:

Are grandparents who are UK pensioners legally obliged to pay maintenance for grandchildren in the UK even if their sons who, as fathers even of illegitimate children, ARE paying regular monthly maintenance never skip payments? I am a pensioner and I don't see why I should have to pay anything further if the single mother of his child is too lazy to work.

Regards

Hello,

There is no such legal requirement in the UK. Grandparents are not legally liable to pay child maintenance for their grandchildren in the UK.

The grandparents may make voulntary contributions to the upkeep of their grandchildren but cannot be forced to make such contributions.

Hope this clarifies
