is a french magazine from 1935 out of copyright in its entirety

Resolved Question:

is a french magazine from 1935 out of copyright in its entirety -photographs, text and illustrations (drawings, artwork - uncredited). Am I correct in believing all UK magazines content from pre 1940 are out of copyright?

I want to scan entire pages from such for a forthcoming book - self published.

Under English law, copyright expires 70 years after the death of the author that wrote the literary work.

Customer:

I know that, I'm talking about uncredited articles photographs and drawings in magazines prior to 1940

Thank you for your question.

French law and UK law are similar here. Copyright expires 70 years from the date of the death of the author or if the author is unknown at the end of the calendar year that the work was made or made available to the public.

So if articles and other artistic works in a magazine are uncredited then copyright expires 70 years from the date of publication.
