My wife and I decided to terminate a pregnancy in Sep last

Customer Question

My wife and I decided to terminate a pregnancy in Sep last year. We have three young children and she has not gotten over what was a very difficult decision for both of us. She has had counselling continually and on anti-depressants however the situation is getting worse not better. I work long hours and now worry about leaving the kids at home with her (my wife does not work) because she has expressed feelings of wanting to die. Is there any way of a father getting custody if they are concerned about the safety or welfare of their children? This has been going on for 9 months and I am out of ideas.

Hello,

You may apply for a Residence Order (custody is no longer the right term to use and it has been relaced with the term residence) which is a court order setting out arrangements where the children will live and with whom.

See here for the procedure involved:

I suggest you contact the charity Families Need Fathers as they will be able to provide further assistance to you:

Hope this helps
