Hello. I am a lawyer with over 15 years experience and will try to help you with this.
I f you try to sleep in a motorhome in a pubic place in central London you will be moved on if you are noticed by the authorities. If you are discrete you may get away with it (especially in a quiet suburban location) for a night or two but there will always be a risk of being asked to move on. There is in general no reason why an owner of a private garage can not let people stay in his garage for a short stay. Even if this in breach of user regs or byelaws it is unlikely that any enforcement action would be taken against him unless the van was being used for quite a long time. if you are thinking of using a private garage then you should check if there are any such rules of usage and assess likely methods of enforcemant.
Hi. Thank you for your response. For how long can I park my motorhome in a private garage before it becomes a problem for the authorities? I was under the assumption that if it is a private garage then I would not have any issues no matter how long we stayed there.
You could probably get away with this indefinitely but you would be using the garage for a reason that it was not meant to be used. If attached to a house there will be no problems, if it is a lock up style garage there is probably a term of use banning over night stays so it could be that you attract unwanted attention.
