IT SEEMS WRONG THAT HE HAS AGREED VERBALLY TO PURCHASE THE PROPERTY AFTER A GOOD LOOK AROUND THEN STARTS PICKING WHAT IS WRONG.
This isn't really a legal question but a practical one. I understand how annoying this sort of thing is but ultimately it comes down to whether you want to lose the sale over a disagreement over a couple of slates.
Is there a proper survey?
WHAT I AM WORRIED ABOUT IS THAT HE COULD BEGIN PICKING ON OTHER ITEMS IF I AGREE TO PAY FOR THIS.
He might do but you can make it clear through your solicitors that he has agreed to purchase the house as seen and if he makes any more requests you may put it back on the market.
I don't know the specifics of this particular conveyance but in general terms it is a sellers market at the moment and it might do any harm to remind him of that. It is likely the estate agents could have new prospective buyers at your house quite quickly.
What has your solicitor said about this development?
YES OK NO PROBLEM - IT IS JUST THAT I NEED THE PROPERTY SOLD AS PER OUR INITIAL MEETING BECAUSE I NEED THE FINANCE NOW OR A BUSINESS DEAL WILL FALL THROUGH - HE PROMISED THAT HE WOULD PURCHASE THE PROPERTY SHOOK ON IT AND GAVE A VERBAL AGREEMENT.
If you haven't exchanged contracts you cannot compel him to see through the contract or seek compensation for breach I am afraid.
