My friend has recently found out her fathers ashes were buried by his 2 nd wife in her mothers grave ,she dug the hole and buried him with no permission or ceremony is this illegal

Hello,

Generally there are no restrictions on how ashes may be scattered or dealt with, so it is not illegal what she did.

However, if your friends late father had expressed a wish as to how his ashes were to be dealt with or whom to be given to, then this should have been followed, although again, there is no penalty as such if his wishes were not kept as far as his ashes are concerned.
