Hello my name is Alex and I will help you with this. Please note that I am a working Solicitor and may be on and offline as I have to attend Court and meet with clients, even at weekends. As such you may not get an instant response when you reply as this is not an ‘on demand’ live service, but rest assured I will be giving your question my immediate attention upon return. There is no need to wait here, you will get an email when I reply.
Could you please explain the situation a little more?
british gas back dated my electric to 2009 . they told me that they had made a mistake in the unit price .so when iit came to light they could bill me for it
I see. No its not your fault, they can't bill you.
Its their error and their fault.
This is called back billing
As long as you have not tried to avoid payment they can't back bill beyond 12 months, ie maximum 1 year
You should write and formally complain in writing, not email
If that does not resolve the complaint you can go to the Ombudsman.
They are independent and can consider your complaint
Their website is:
Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?
But in any event they would be in breach of contract
They must act in accordance with Section 13 of the Sale and Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982
So even if this is not domestic but business then they are caught by the law
Can I clarify anything for you?
is this section 13 for business as well as households
Consumer and domestic
That is for all services, not just energy
Can I clarify anything else?
If this answers your question could I invite you leave feedback on my service which I hope has been excellent today, if you need more information or help then please click reply.
