Its bad news I am afraid.
Under the Limitation Act 1980 you have 5 years to bring a claim for breach of contract (which is what this is) from the date of purchase.
That means that the time limit expired 3 years ago
Sadly you are out of time to bring a claim and it is time barred, which is an absolute defence
I am sorry if this is not the answer you are after and certainly not the one I want to give you, but I have a duty to be honest
I would though contact the merchant and see if they will do anything. But sadly they are under no obligation to do so
