I have been a sales agent for a hand made pottery manufacture

Resolved Question:

I have been a sales agent for a hand made pottery manufacture for about 35 years. They rang me yesterday 7th July to say that they were terminating my agency as from today on the grounds that my turnover was down. Are they required to give me more notice? Also, regarding any compensation, they are offering me £2,000. Are there any guidelines as to how much compensation I can claim for?

Alex J. :

There are no specific guidelines but you would like to regulation 17 of Commercial Agents Regulations 1993.

Alex J. :

On the basis that you have brought in customers the regulations suggest that as a starting point it should be a payment of 1 years commission calculated as a an average of the previous 5 years.

Alex J. :

Do you have a contract with them? Kind regards
