I understand this is just to do with the football but does he have reason to suspect there is any other element of discrimination such as on the grounds of sex, race, religion, disability, age or for raising a health and safety or other complaint?
Hi the problem is, as you identified in the question that his employment can be terminated for any reason in the first 2 years of employment. This means that if he refuses to do this he can be dismissed. The reason I asked about discrimination was that the exception to this is if the termination/ treatment is for a reason contrary to the Equality Act 2010. Unfortuantely this does not seem to be the case.
I do agree that this treatment is very unfair but UK employment law is very weak in the sense that it does not provide adequate protection to employees in these circumstances with less than 2 years service.
I am really sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
