Hello, I am a solicitor with 20 easr experience. I will try to help you with this.
Have you been arrested or questioned about these car parts? Have they said why they suspect the parts may be stolen?
I have not been arrested
Police should only seize goods if they have reasonable grounds for believing that: they have been obtained illegally; orthey are evidence in relation to an offence. In either of these cases, they must also have reasonable grounds for believing that it is necessary to seize the goods to prevent them being lost, stolen or destroyed.
The car has modifications on which they ate saying they want to check up on.
They had no reason to believe the parts were stolen.
The garage where my car was stored when impounded rang police after my car was released to notify them of the modifications on my car.the police then decided not to release
It has been nearly 3 weeks now
I think it will be hard to do much at the moment. Can you get a courtesy car under your insurance? You could initiate a complaint to or you could write to the officer explaining the problems and asking him to explain how your car comes with the above reasons for seizure. You need to be careful though because it may be that if the police suspect the car has stolen parts they may suspect you of handling stolen goods. They do not have to explain anything to you if they are acting on the basis of reasonable grounds for believing etc they can keep it during the investigation. They may have legitimate reasons not to tell you anything eg if it may compromise their investigation. really there is very little you can do at this point.
