I am very concerned whether I have to declare a inheritance of £5000 which I received in August last year. My husband and I are 78 and 77 years old. Receive pension attendance allowance disability and a pension credit of £31 a week can you help.

Thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I will try to help with this.
You should really declare it to be on the safe side.
However, if this is pension credit and disability living allowance then they are not means tested benefits in the sense that there is no maximum limit on the capital that you can have. Therefore it should not make any difference.
In any event, £5000 is under the capital allowance for many benefits so it should not be an issue.
But I would declare it to be on the safe side.
