My ex landlord has just advised me, 6 weeks after i moved out

Customer Question

My ex landlord has just advised me, 6 weeks after i moved out of his property that my september rent was not paid (I'm assuming the DD was refused by bank as I've been struggling financially). He has returned the deposit to me. Am I legally bound to pay Septembers rent? Surely, he should have checked all this before returning the deposit?

Hi
Thank you for your question.
My name is ***** ***** I will do my best to help you
i am afraid that if the rent was indeed not paid then you are still liable for it and your landlord can sue you for the money
The fact that he returned the deposit to you is not relevant
Please ask if you need further details
