. I have recently returned from living in the UAE

Resolved Question:

Hi. I have recently returned from living in the UAE for three years. I have a Personal Loan (121,367.10aed remaining) and 2 Credit Cards (19529.06aed & 6559.07aed) with Emirates NBD bank. I have made 1 payment to them since returning of 3960aed (minimum requested by them) and requested that they consider reducing the debt and allowing me to repay in instalments, I am waiting for their reply. The debt is going to be difficult for me to repay. Can you advise on what legal action they could take against me if i default on payments altogether? Thanks

Hello my name is ***** ***** I will help you with this.
I assume the debt was covered by UAE law and not UK Law please?

Hi Yes. UAE Law. taken out in Dubai in 2013

Expert:  Ash replied 2 years ago.
Then it can not be enforced within the UK. There may be correspondence and they may lead you to believe otherwise. In addition they may refer to an 'agreement' that has been reached.
This has yet to be actually enforced and indeed tested by the Courts.
Therefore as it stands the agreement can NOT be enforced within the UK.
Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?
