. I have been trying to get a council house in Basingstoke

Customer Question

Hello. I have been trying to get a council house in Basingstoke Hampshire for nearly 9 years and am fed up of hearing about people living in houses when they are not on the tenancy agreement. The person who is on the tenancy agreement is not live there anymore.
I also don't understand the guidelines about when tenants going travelling abroad and renting out the property while abroad.
I hope you can help
Thank you in advance

Alex Watts :

Hello my name is ***** ***** I will help you with this.

Alex Watts :

For now please let me know what steps you have taken to complain?

JACUSTOMER-c720nvis- :

I haven't got that far yet

Alex Watts :

What you need to do is write to your Councillor and make a formal complaint.

Alex Watts :

After all they are elected by you and they can investigate the matter for you

Alex Watts :

If that does not work then you can write to the Chief Executive of the Council and make a complaint. That office will investigate the matter and report back to you

Alex Watts :

This should resolve the matter.

Alex Watts :

If that does not work you can take it to Court, but it may be expensive as it is High Court. A Judge would consider the complaint and see whether the Council have acted reasonably and legally. The Court can agree with their decision or remit it back to the Council for further consideration.

Alex Watts :

So the options are:

Alex Watts :

1) Complain to Councillor

Alex Watts :

2) Complain to Chief Officer

Alex Watts :

3) Local Government Ombudsman

Alex Watts :

4) High Court

Alex Watts :

Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?

Alex Watts :

Finally you can go to the Local Government Ombudsman. They offer a free and independent service. They can investigate your complaint at: www.lgo.org.uk

Alex Watts :

You have rated BAD SERVICE

Alex Watts :

What else is it you would like to know?

Alex Watts :

I have given you the legal options
