Customer Question

Hi
During my time of self employment I was told to use my companies accountants company to do my self assessment for HMRC. This January 2014 and the assessment was for the year 2012-2013. I was told that they would not be expensive so I used them. They did my self assessment and the self assessment was only for 1 month when submitting the assessment to HMRC. When I asked regarding fees I was told not to worry about it. There was no mention of a fee especially how much it would cost and there had been no invoice sent to me. January 2015 I was asked to do my self assessment again and again I used the company and sent all my paperwork. While in the process of doing my assessment with the accounting company I found out the fee that they wanted to charge me so I asked them to cancel the assessment. I was told that I could not cancel since the assessment had already been started and they were going to charge me anyway since they started with it. Thats when they also told me of the previous years invoice that was still outstanding. Even after I had asked someone to get into contact with me to sort this out, nobody has really contacted me to provide answers regarding this dispute. All I received was an email to say that the job had been done, so pay up. They threatened me with legal action even when I asked if they could contact me so I could sort it out and no one has. Now I have an email from a solicitor for a final demand payment threatening me again. I felt bullied and pressured into going ahead with the assessment and the lack of professionalism from the accounting company is a disgrace. Could anyone advise me what to do, especially since there was no agreement between me and the accounting company of the prices involved and especially when I was told not to worry about the first assessment?
Thank you

My name is ***** ***** I'm happy to help with your question today.
With regard to the first invoice - is there any reason why that should not be paid if the work was done? With regard to the second/latest invoice - how much are they asking for?
