Whether your benefits will be affected depends on how much you earn for doing 16 hours work. The starting point is that you must notify the council of the job and your earnings - it is a change in your circumstances after all. Then once you have declared your earned income a calculation will be carried out to see whether your benefit should be reduced and, if so, by how much. The council will take your weekly income and deduct tax, national insurance and an allowance depending on whether you are a single/married/sole parent. The amount left is used to calculate any possible reduction in benefit.
