The powers of the Supreme Court sound similar to the US Supreme Court. Is that correct?

There are some similarities - it is the final Court of Appeal for Civil cases in the UK and for Criminal cases in England Wales and Northern Ireland (not Scotland)

However there is much less Political involvement (although it can pass Judgement on Constitutional issues) and there is no public examination of appointees as there are in the US.
