I purchased a magnetic pulser from the US, it was shipped

Customer Question

I purchased a magnetic pulser from the US, it was shipped from Bangalore by Fedex and the cost was $350.00. I received it 10 days ago. I have now got a bill in from Fedex, £70.56 broken down into £49.71 Original VAT, £.,85 Original Duty and £12.00 Clearance Administration Charge. Do I have to pay this?

I am awaiting a reply in what I would assume is quite an easy case

Ok - in that case its bad news. If you import something into the country then it is your responsibility to make sure all the duties, VAT and taxes are paid.

Therefore in this case, its down to you and yes you are liable to pay these fees.

Unless the agreement with the company in the USA says they will cover it, then you are liable.

I am sorry if this is not the answer you want and certainly not the one I want to give you, but I have a duty to be honest.

Can I clarify anything for you about this today please?
Alex
