Customer Question

I entered into a contract with my solicitor in June 2012 and we agreed ratcheted terms but at the time they were not VAT registered and so I did not have to pay VAT. In August 2012 they became VAT registered and my case has been going on for almost 4 years we have now settled and I need to pay their bill and they are asking me for VAT. Could you tell me if I have to pay VAT as my legal contract did not include VAT thank you
