If there is no way of finding out if a Will has been proven

Customer Question

If there is no way of finding out if a Will has been proven and probate granted, how long can it be that any articles in ones possession can become ones personal property, if all efforts have been made to acquire information relating to the desires of the desceased via their Will and all efforts to contact the executor and solicitors have been rebuffed?

Thank you for your question

My name is Clare

I shall do my best to help you but I need some further information first

Could you explain a little more about the background please?

Customer: replied 15 days ago.
I was looking after an elderly person who was ill with cancer. He had some things in my apartment whiich he wanted me to have. I was present when he was pronounced dead in hospital. I organised his funeral but am not the next of kin. After the funeral the next of kin travelled to France and then back to the US of A. I received all the funeral charges which i did not pay as I had received no cash from his death. I still have the things which he wanted me to have but I don't know if they are mine because I have not seen a copy of the Will. All personnel whom I have contacted have not replied except Probate (there was no information and the Will had not been proven) The banks and other companies had not been informed about my colleague's death either. My colleague passed away in 2011 and I have been trying to get answers since then.
