Hello, and thanks for your question. My name is Nick and I will help you today.

What generation is your ipod Nano?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Not sure

Expert:  Nick H. replied 3 years ago.
Bernie,

You can try couple methods:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes dark (about 5-10 seconds). The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.

Please let me know if this method worked or not. Thank you!

Nick

Thanks Bernie.

What buttons does your iPod nano have? Does it have a wheel?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

yes it has a wheel wich will not move

Expert:  Nick H. replied 3 years ago.
Got it.

Please try this reset:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Does your ipod reboot and work normally now?

no nick nothing is happening. the light comes on showing menu options then goes black and thats it. Think I might have to take it to an Apple store

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

no I think it is a 4th 5th generation went on apple store and it looks like that

Expert:  Nick H. replied 3 years ago.
Thanks Bernie.

Then the reset below is the correct one:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Please try 2-3 times. See if your ipod nano will reboot or not.

You are welcomed. I think this is hardware issue. If you can go to a local Apple store, please bring your ipod nano in. They will check to repair/replace the faulty parts.
