I have recently been bought an iPad and was under the impression that just one passcode was needed for everything, but when I tried to download a daily newspaper, it seemed that there was a code I needed to enter to remove the restriction on in-app purchases. I do not recall entering a code for this and the code I use to lock the iPad and for all other security purposes, is apparently not valid. I am now at a loss as to how to remove this restriction. Any iddeas. I have tried every combination I would normally think of, but nothing works.

The passcode to unlock the device is to protect your device from intruders or having any of your data viewed by someone not authorized. In case it was stolen the only way to remove a passocode if you don't remember it is to reset the device to factory settings wiping out completely this protects any of your data.

To purchase any apps a Apple ID is required this Apple account on the Apple servers which holds credit card info. Instead of you entering your credit card number every time you want to purchase a app you are prompted for the password. This guards against unathorized purchases.

If you can't remember your password you can always reset it. Use the link I have provided to reach the reset page. Enter your Apple ID, a Apple ID is email you used to create your account.

I think maybe I didn't make it quite clear that I haven't forgotten my password. The message that comes up when I want to download the newspaper is as follows: 'In-App purchases are disabled on your iPad. Please change the In-App Purchase setting to 'On' under 'Settings -General -Restrictions and then retry. You can then turn the setting back off. But when I try to do this, I am asked for a code, not a password. A code I have no idea about at all! Does this help?

No, it happens with all magazine and newspaper downloads. The restriction button is set to on, and I cannot change it to off or cancel it without putting in this four digit code which I do not have! So far I have tried unsuccessfully to use the code I use for unlocking the pad, but that's obviously not the one as it just says, error!

Hi Liz,

I am Vinod. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue.

Unfortunately, I have a bad news for you - If the restrictions password is forgotten, we need to factory reset the ipad to remove it. But I do have a good news as well, which is you mostly would be able to restore from a recent backup which would bring back everything on it. Also, your itunes purchases are all tied to your apple ID, so they are all safe.

Open itunes in the computer and connect the ipad to the computer. Your ipad name would now be listed to the top right of the itunes. Click on the ipad name and now, to the middle of the screen, you would find the "restore ipad" option.

Restore it and finally select restore from backup.

Have just got visitors! Will have to get back to you tomorrow. If I restore, does this mean I will lose all my photographs?

No worries, take your own time and reply.

As I said, restoring the photographs cannot be guaranteed. It depends on whether your computer has a recent backup.

If the photographs were taken using the ipad camera, I would first suggest you to transfer them to the computer before restoring the ipad. Let me know if you need instructions for that and I will explain.

If those photos were not taken using the ipad camera, you would need a third party software to transfer the photos. I would first suggest you to give a backup. Above the "restore ipad" option, there is another option called "backup ipad".

After backing up, use any third party software to retrieve photos from the backup. After that you can go ahead with the restore.
