i use Apple aperture for photo management. I now cannot access aperture, as the system crashes, and I get the following message "There was an error opening the database from the library in library / users/pictures/aperture library.aplibrary

Have you tried rebuilding the Aperture database ?

Yes and it partially rebuilds, but crashes regularly

That indicates the library file has corrupted. Do you have any backup of your Aperture library ? And what version of Mac OS X are you using ?
