On a random basis my Mac will produce a blank screen with video

Customer Question

On a random basis my Mac will produce a blank screen with video type icons (play, pause speaker) along the bottom of the screen. This happens when attempting to open a new application, but not always... The only fix is to leave it till the Mac goes into sleep mode or turn it off switch it on again! Any ideas?

Please go to the Apple logo on the upper left of the screen, go to About This Mac (DO NOT Select More Info), and tell me the Version (under Mac OS X), the Processor and the Memory, it is all right there.
