I have set up a number of gmail accounts ( and Yahoo & AOL

Customer Question

I have set up a number of gmail accounts ( and Yahoo & AOL accounts) on my iPad. None, bar two, will not allow me to use them. When setting them up I got the message that the email address 'may not send or receive emails'. How do I get them to function as I want?

Hello Rick! Thank you for your question. I am a licensed computer / tablet professional with over ten years of experience, and I will be assisting you today.

I'm sorry about the issue. Please press and hold both the Power (On / Off) button and the Home button (which is located right below the screen) together for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears, then wait a bit.

Next, don't use the Mail app, but go to App Store icon, then download/install the email app you want. For example, in App Store, type/search for Gmail , then download / install the Gmail app, then use the Gmail app for gmail email.

Gmail app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gmail-email-from-google/id422689480?mt=8

Yahoo Mail app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yahoo-mail-free-email-app/id577586159?mt=8

AOL Mail app:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aol-mail-news-weather-video/id646100661?mt=8

Please click on the Reply to Expert tab below, and reply back to me, so I can help further if there is still any issue. Thank you,

You have not responded to my reply re the information I gave in the reply to expert.
As explained then the email accounts that do not function were created via the Gmail app. So the answer provided doesn't help.
Expert:  Viet - Mac Tech replied 2 years ago.

I'm sorry, I do not see your reply at all until about two and a half hour later; I was waiting for you response. I think you forgot to submit after typing, so the information did not go through.

To confirm, can you please let me know if you did all the followings:

1. You've created a gmail email address at the website http://www.gmail.com/ and you are able to sign in and use your gmail email address at the website http://www.gmail.com/

2. You've gone to App Store icon on the iPad, then there, you download/install the app called Gmail
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gmail-email-from-google/id422689480?mt=8
, but you could not sign in / use your gmail email address in the Gmail app on the iPad?

3. You've created a yahoo email address at the website http://mail.yahoo.com/, and you are able to sign in and use your yahoo email address at the website http://mail.yahoo.com/

4. You've gone to App Store icon on the iPad, then there, you download and install the app called Yahoo Mail
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yahoo-mail-free-email-app/id577586159?mt=8
, but you could not sign in nor use your yahoo email address in the Yahoo Mail app on the iPad?

Please reply back at the box below to continue. (Do not reply via email, but reply at this web page only.) Thank you,

I had already downloaded the app for Gmail, and had created email accounts by this app. The email account was accepted but a proviso stated that the email account ' May not send and receive emails'. This is the case.

The Yahoo account now seems to be functioning.
Expert:  Viet - Mac Tech replied 2 years ago.

That's strange; usually, you would create the email account at the email website, not within the app. Can you just use only the Yahoo email account? And/or if you'd like to, you can also try AOL email account and AOL Mail app.

Please let me know if you still need help. Thank you,

Someone suggested that the email accounts that are causing problems may have been compromised.
Expert:  Viet - Mac Tech replied 2 years ago.
To confirm if a gmail account is compromised, can you go to the webstie http://www.gmail.com/, then sign in your gmail email address account there, and see if it works?

If you create a new gmail address now at the website https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?service=mail , then the new gmail address is definitely not compromised since it's brand-new, then see if you can sign in this new gmail address in the Gmail app on the iPad. Thank you

Everything seems to be ok viz emails. However I have an app for notes and wondered if I could store them on iCloud?
Expert:  Viet - Mac Tech replied 2 years ago.

Great. If you use Apple Notes, then make sure you turn on iCloud in Settings -> iCloud -> Notes, then notes are store in iCloud, which you can see at http://icloud.com/

Thank you,

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Thanks. The notes that I referred to was those that came with gmail accounts as well as those with Yahoo and AOL email accounts.
I have downloaded what I think is Apple Notes, though I am not sure. When I googled Apple Notes it came up with an app called Notes Plus which I downloaded but am having difficulty getting started with.
If it is not the official Apple Notes, can you let me know how to get it. I have looked at the iTunes Store but cannot find Apple Notes.
Expert:  Viet - Mac Tech replied 2 years ago.

The built-in apple Notes, and each of these Notes are all different. Unfortunately, there are no apps for google, yahoo, and aol notes. You have to access your google/gmail, yahoo, and notes at their websites on the iPad:

http://gmail.com/
https://www.google.com/calendar/
http://notepad.yahoo.com/
https://calendar.yahoo.com/
http://mail.aol.com/

(You can bookmark these websites in Safari (or your preferred Internet browser) on the iPad: http://www.wikihow.com/Bookmark-on-an-iPad)

If you want to use the built-in apple Notes app, then you can use it.

Some other good notes app:

- Google Keep (TurboNote for Google Keep):
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/turbonote-for-google-keep/id639241449?mt=8
https://keep.google.com/

- Evenote:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/turbonote-for-google-keep/id639241449?mt=8
https://evernote.com/

Again, all these are separate notes (from different companies), so you decide which one you want to use (as main one), or if you prefer, you can use them all, which you have to keep track of.

Please let me know if you have any further question. Thank you,
