The DZ-HV575E camcorder records using the AVCHD format, you'll need to convert the footage prior to importing. To convert your file use the link below to download handbrake for your mac. Hi, it says in my hand book that the File Format for Movies is AVI. Is that the same as AVCHD?

Yes it a type of avi that uses the AVCHD codecs. That codec unfortunately isnt supported by apples movie editing software ie imovie and final cut.
