Physically it cannot be connected, it doesn't have any connection to connect physically.
I mean is it connected to wireless or internet, are you able to browse to websites ,etc?

Then tell me if you see the virgin media account there under accounts?
Can you tap on your account and tell me what does it says for host name under Incoming Mail Server
change it to
Retype your full email address in the username field, and password ***** the password *****
Then tap done from the top right and check if you can now receive

No, you have to go to Settings, Tap Mails, Contacts, Calendars
Then from under Accounts, tap the virginmedia mail account
look further down and then tap delete.

If the notes are saved on IMAP then you should get them back.
If the notes are not saved on imap, then they're probably saved on the phone.
But did you go to the right place to delete mail account?
OK just seen your second line. Have deleted.
Now tap Add Account
Then tap Other
Then tap Add Mail Account
Then fill in your information, Name, Email, Password ***** Account Description
Then tap Next
Then under Incoming Mail Server: type imap.googlemail.com
In the username box, type your email address and and in the password ***** type password
Then under Outgoing Mail Server, type smtp.googlemail.com
In the username box, type your email address and and in the password ***** type password ***** tap Next
I am getting cannot connect using SSL

Go to Settings, Mails Contacts Calendars
Tap the VirginMedia Account
Then under IMAP tap your account email address
look at the end of this and tap advanced
then tell me what does it says in the server port box

Can you tap the round button in the center of the iPad and then tap Safari icon and try to open a website and tell me if you you are able to open any site
No. it says could not open page because server stopped responding
so iPad isnt connected to the network
