only noticed yesterday after downloading music cd when I went to connect my ipad via usb to itunes only to find it would not allow me to connect

First we can reset your iPad and see if it works or not. Press and hold down the Power button and Home button at the same time until it shows the Apple logo. When you see the Apple logo, release the buttons and let it boot.

Please let me know if that didn't work, so we can continue troubleshooting.

have tried resetting ipad and computer also reinstalled itunes to no avail

yes tried new lead yes do have another computer

Then the problem is with the iPad. Goto Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings. Then connect it to the computer. Does it register ?
