Restart the computer then immediately hold the Command key and the letter R key together until you see the Apple Logo. This will boot to the Recovery HD partition. When it boots you will see a window called Utilities, select the Disk Utility and then select Continue. Then in Disk Utility select Macintosh HD in the left column and then select Verify Disk on the right. If that is OK in green type then select Repair Permissions. If it is not ok let me know.
You have to have at least Snow Leopard 10.6 to use it
Unfortunately this hasn't cured the problem. I keep getting this message
Nothing has happened- still the same response when I try to open word.
Sadly it still hasn't cleared the problem. I still have no access to any Word file
No PP and Excel are also unopenable so I cannot get to 'Help'
We could also try opening the updater by itself. Select the first icon in the Dock, the Finder then select the word Go at the top of the screen to Go to Folder. Paste this line:/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0in the folder that opens click on Microsoft AutoUpdate.app
On finer Go the folder it comes up with a search box. I put in microsoft upgrader and it said no such file.
Went onto the Microsoft site- found my Office for Mac 2011 but to download will cost me. As I have already paid for it -it must be somewhere on my computor.
