Mike the Mac Medic :

Force restart the classic:

Mike the Mac Medic :

Slide the iPod's Hold switch to the "Hold" position and then toggle it back again to turn it off. ...
Press the Menu and Center buttons simultaneously for six to eight seconds, until the Apple logo appears. ...
Connect the iPod Classic to a power supply if it did not successfully reset.

Customer:

I've done this, I currently have the ipod disconnected from the pc, it's fully charged

Mike the Mac Medic :

OK and you still were not able to restore?

Mike the Mac Medic :

If not put it in DFU mode:

Customer:

No, I get the message I mentioned on my first post

Mike the Mac Medic :

Ok follow the directions to put it in DFU mode then Restore.

Customer:

Sorry, what is DFU mode?

Mike the Mac Medic :

Can you see my post:

Mike the Mac Medic :

It will allow you to restore it

Customer: Just tried that, the ipod has powered off and I can't power it back up!
Mike the Mac Medic :

It may be defective and need repair which is why it would not restore, keep trying that's the only thing you can do or take it in for repairs.

Customer:

Ok will do
