Can you please hold the power and home button on the iPad for about 10 seconds until the apple logo appears, then release the buttons.
Let the iPad restart and then try to receive mail.

ok, can you go to Settings, Mail on the iPad.
Then press on the account and press Delete account.
Once done, repeat my initial instructions to restart the iPad
Then go to Settings, Mail and add the email account again to the iPad
When done, tell me if it now receives please

As I have had several attempts, they have closed me down for12 hours

ok, you have to try again then.
Once you have the password ***** can then sign into your account on the iPad and you will receive emails once again.
But you need to get the password *****

Hi Richard Im writing to see if you can receive my mail, as I seem to have lost everything now

I have now set up a new account with Yahoo and fortunately everything is there and working, but as for my old account it says" cannot get mail"

Yes, you needed to remove the old account and add it again to the iPad Laraine.
If you have reset the password, then you can now add it to the iPad.
