I have an old Ipod (2nd generation) and have updated the software

Resolved Question:

I have an old Ipod (2nd generation) and have updated the software on the computer. However when I have synced the IPOD all the music is not on the computer and now my Ipod does not work. Each time I press a song to play it automatically jumps back to the music menu. I don't know what I can do to restore the old setting as I hav tried the all the options which have been available except clear and re-sync. If I do this I will lose music which has been addes via other media than ITunes. How can I resolve this issue?

I am Vinod. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue.
Sorry to hear about your ipod..:( Let's try a simple reset first anyway. Hold down the power button and the home button together until you see an apple logo.
If that does not resolve this issue, unfortunately, there is no direct way to transfer non-purchases from the ipod to the computer.
Are the songs still in the ipod? Then I would suggest you to use some third party softwares and try to transfer the songs to the computer.
Try the free trial version for this software and see whether it does the job for you.

No this has not worked also the issue with the songs not playing is also not resolved. The song just jumps back to the menu.

I understand. Unfortunately, the next step we need to try is the restore.
Since you have songs in the ipod that aren't saved anywhere, I know you would not want to do that.
