My mac mini is running so slowly that its on its way to the landfill soon; a previous tech support conversation told me its not my computer its my internet connection so slow that its using all my computers free memory; have continually checked download speed which is a very good 50Mbps plus. Having just signed a years subscription to a streaming movie website I find my mac mini dual core 2.3GHz does not appear to be enough to stream even just 40minute clips on offer. It takes a minute or two to open the about this mac etc etc. i understand my computer to be high end and with its Intel cpu it ought to be doing everything a bit better than stone age??

Even on a 15 year old Mac, it wouldn't take a minute or 2 to load "About This Mac". So I believe this is not a software issue but it sounds like your hard drive is failing. Slowness is an indication of hard drive issue. So first, I'd recommend to backup all your important files ASAP to an external hard drive. Then we can troubleshoot this Mac.

Note : Since your Mac is very slow, I will not be able to connect to your Mac and fix it remotely. So please ignore or cancel the secure remote assistance offer you get from this site.

Great ! Go to Applications > Utilities folder and open Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, select your hard disk in left column. Click Repair Permission. Then click Verify Disk and Repair Disk if asked. let me know the results from there

Also on your Mac, download the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test app and tell me what it returns (speed of hard drive). This will tell us whether there is any issue with the hard drive and help us to move to right direction

do not wish to pay any more money by having a secure remote assistant/ I have run my disc permissions programs from Disk utility and everything is said to be okay - the problem with my mac's slowness is something far different - like junk code and files from the internet

Secure remote assistance is optional. BTW Disk Utility can only show the condition of system files not of physical condition of hard drive. Since that returned OK, that means system files are OK. Files from internet or junk codes will not cause this issue. But it is possible that system files are corrupted or the hard drive is failing. Either one of these is the issue

By the way ive had no service for the £33.00 paid and have found i can go no further without your asking for more money; further i have looked up this on Google and there is no doubt this is a scam site - I have reported it to my card provider who is instructed to dispute the £33.00 payment, either give me the upfront advice that I can deem to be satisfied or disatisfied with and in so doing indemnify or withdraw the payment to JustAnswer

I can't give you a direct answer to your question without knowing what the issue is. That is not what we do here. I need to troubleshoot first and then only I can give you instructions after identifying the exact problem.

Like I said, this could be an issue with the hard drive and that is why I asked you to run black magic disk speed test app. Running that app will give us the performance of the hard drive and then we can move to right direction with fixing system files or reinstalling OS X. Again, please note fixing computers will take time.

If you prefer to get the possible solutions, then I can give them to you which you can try and they may or may not work. But you will have to go through all of them and it will take a lot of time to try them all.
