If you have forgotten your passcode to unlock the iPad, you will need to restore it to factory settings to remove the passcode and set it up as new.

If you have synced the iPad with your computer, or backed up to iCloud, you should get most or all of your data back by re-syncing after erasing the iPad.

If you've forgotten the passcode though, there is no other way to unlock it.

The steps for restoring to factory settings include force restarting the iPad and putting it in recovery mode.
