hi, is it normal for baby not to breastfeed for 4 hours after birth?

It's a little unusual, but I don't believe it's abnormal for a baby to not breastfeed for 4 hours. Most babies will start breastfeeding within an hour or so after birth, but some would rather sleep. They are born not needing extra nutrition for many hours, and some just don't get hungry for a while. I would offer the nipple when your baby is awake, and sooner or later he/she will start nursing. If the baby goes more than 6 hours without breastfeeding, then I would discuss it with your doctor. Be sure the baby isn't getting any formula, since it needs to suck on your nipples to bring in the milk. Best wishes.
