Migraine can sometimes be severe requiring IV pain medications to control the headache.
This is most common cause.
However, there can be other serious possibilities:
1. high blood pressure
2. Brain tumor or aneurysm
3. intracranial bleeding
Although thse serious causes are less common, they should be considered in case of severe headaches.
Hence, it is better to to go to the local hospital ( A & E) for further evaluation.
In case, it is severe migraine, better pain medication can be used to control the headache.
so A & E wont laugh when you turn up with a headache

Sumatriptan nasal spray or subcutaneous injection can be used to effectively control the headache.
IV metoclopramide also can be used.
But, severe headache should not be neglected.
