It will help if you could provide some further information:
How severe is the tenderness?
How long has this been bothering you?
Is it the entire temple or only a portion?
Do you have any chronic medical problems?
Are you taking any chronic medicines?

I had asked for some further information, but have not received a response, so will provide an answer with what information is available.

There are many possible causes of tenderness in the temples. The greatest amount of tissue in the temple is a muscle that is involved in moving the jaw. Consequently, tenderness of the temple can be due to a strain or pull of this muscle. If the tenderness is more diffuse across the temple, then it is more likely to be muscular in origin.

However, there is another possible cause of tenderness that is more of a concern. It is possible to develop inflammation of the arteries in the head, including the temporal artery. If the tenderness is more severe and if it follows the course of the artery, then there would be more concern that this form of inflammation is present. If it sounds like you have this tenderness, then it would be better for you to be seen quickly, as inflammation of other arteries in the head can lead to neurologic symptoms, including blindness.
