Hi, I have middle back pain - just to the left of my spine.

Customer Question

Hi, I have middle back pain - just to the left of my spine. The pain comes in waves. It is relieved when I am sitting in a particular position or when lying down. It is worse when I am standing still. The pain is less frequent when I am walking. The pain is best described as jagged / throbbing pains that come and go - similar in a way to labor pains. I am 59 year old female.

DrThomasMd :

hello

DrThomasMd :

This can be from disc prolbems

DrThomasMd :

Very important

DrThomasMd :

Exam and possibly MRI are needed.

DrThomasMd :

The correct physical therapy can help avoid surgery.

DrThomasMd :

See a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor for assessment.

DrThomasMd :

This is a specialist MD

DrThomasMd :

It is their job to get your spine back into shape

JACUSTOMER-q49feruc- :

I have never had any problems with my back. I have attended one session of physio

DrThomasMd :

It can develop slowly until it is a problem

DrThomasMd :

You need the specialist to look at this

DrThomasMd :

And maybe an MRI

DrThomasMd :

x ray is useless in this situation

JACUSTOMER-q49feruc- :

is it strange that is worse when standing still?

DrThomasMd :

No

DrThomasMd :

The worsening of pain can be variable

DrThomasMd :

Individual to individual

DrThomasMd :

That makes it even more likely to be a disc problem.

JACUSTOMER-q49feruc- :

ok I thought disc pain would be more severe.... I have not taken any pain killer.

DrThomasMd :

It can be all degrees

DrThomasMd :

it will get more severe if you leave it without treatment

DrThomasMd :

Hence my recommendation to see a PM&R MD.

JACUSTOMER-q49feruc- :

Ok. and what is the difference between disc / muscle and joint pain? The physio said my joint there was stiff

DrThomasMd :

The joint is part of the disc problem.

DrThomasMd :

The joints are in the spine.

JACUSTOMER-q49feruc- :

is this all you have for me?

DrThomasMd :

What other questions?

DrThomasMd :

hello?

DrThomasMd :

anything more?

JACUSTOMER-q49feruc- :

I am not happy with the service at all. ALl you have said is to get an mri which I thought myself.
