my mother (81) who has AF, in heart failure and having a pacemaker

Customer Question

my mother (81) who has AF, in heart failure and having a pacemaker fitted in a fortnight...not to mention just recovering from a subdural bilateral haematoma!!

has suddenly developed freezing cold hands which are also very painful to the point of making her cry

her GP has just made a visit and has diagnosed it as a trapped neck nerve? and prescribed amptriptilyne?

I would very much appreciate a second opinion.

Hello from JA
This is possible, but only an MRI can show for sure if there is a trapped nerve in the neck.

Poor heart function, low thyroid and anemia can all cause these symptoms and these also need to be ruled out with lab testing and exam.

Circulation problems of any sort can cause it including raynauds.

I would talk to the doctor about all of these.
