Customer Question

I have been noticing brown discharge (does not smell) in my underwear for the past week now. I originally thought it was blood because I had sex for the first time and I know that can happen sometimes but its been exactly a week now and its definitely brown discharge. We did use a condom when we had sex. I am quite worried and would like to now if it is an infection or something else?

Hi there,

I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to help you with your concerns.

Mysticdoc :

Do you have any vaginal pain or burning?

Mysticdoc :

When was your last period?

JACUSTOMER-tph1m7xt- :

no pain or burning but some itching

JACUSTOMER-tph1m7xt- :

my last period was on the 15th of august

Mysticdoc :

ok so you are not due for period yet.

Mysticdoc :

itching and brown discharge can be from infection.

Mysticdoc :

Yeast infection is common following sexual activity.

Mysticdoc :

Also bacterial vaginosis is possible

Mysticdoc :

This is due to the overgrowth of the normal vaginal flora.

Mysticdoc :

Not considered sexually transmitted infection.

Mysticdoc :

Since you used condoms, STds are unlikely.

Mysticdoc :

But, there is no harm getting checked for that.

JACUSTOMER-tph1m7xt- :

is there any treatment i need?

Mysticdoc :

So, you should see your GP for a clinical evaluation since symptoms are present after a week.

Mysticdoc :

yes for yeast infection, fluconazole one tablet or clotrimazole vaginal cream

Mysticdoc :

for bacterial vaginosis, metronidazole vaginal cream or tablets.

JACUSTOMER-tph1m7xt- :

can i get that over the counter?

Mysticdoc :

Clotrimazole vaginal cream or miconazole vaginal cream is over the counter.

JACUSTOMER-tph1m7xt- :

should i consult my GP before getting and cream for it?

JACUSTOMER-tph1m7xt- :
