Hello from JA
This is typical of sleep apnea.

It can be caused from being overweight or another anatomical problem.
Sometimes it can be neurological.

Ask your doctor for a sleep study to see if this is significant.

It can lead to other problems, such as hypertension and heart problems, if not treated.

yes I am overweight but only recently. This has been going on for some time now and at first I was pretty fit and well within my weight scale for a man of 5' 6". I still exercise but have shot up to 14Stn although it is going down slowly. I will make an appt to see my GP early next week.

You can have it even if not overweight.

It can be obstructive, which is usually from being over weight.

Or central, which means the brain, for whatever reason, is responsible.

So still get it checked out.

A sleep study is indicated.
