Hi--which side of your face is the pain on and any rash in the area?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Left no rash
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Left hand side no rash
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
OK Greg Did you have chickenpox as a child?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Yes
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
Greg--I can only give you my thoughts about this but here they are. This could be shingles from the latent chickenpox virus and you may find that in the next day or two you start to have a reddish/purple small blistery rash breaking out in the area of the pain. The other possibility would be trigeminal neuralgia--an inflammation of the cranial nerve whose distribution is in the area of your pain. If it's shingles, putting you on acyclovir now could shorten the course and if it's trigeminal neuralgia a medication called Tegretol can resolve that. I'd suggest you let your doctor know about this right away

Ok so no danger of stroke etc? Having blood taken from me hours before a run not be an issue. I have been stressed as moving countries soon
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
No--this isn't at all like an impending stroke. And no, blood taken before a run wouldn't cause any symptoms. This isn't a stress issue

Ok so read on Internet main artery then pain up the face could be blockage and high blood pressure. How can I all of a sudden get shingles. I thought shingles was stress related. I was a little sick earlier in the week but nothing major
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
Stress can bring on shingle but most often it just hits out of the blue. I don't know what you read but this isn't a blocked artery and you really need to put that idea to rest.

Ok so pain up into my jaw and up the left side of face ok. What are the effects of shingles? What can I expect
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
Usually it lasts for a week to ten days then completely resolves. But, as I said, if you get on acyclovir now it may shorten that time to three or four days.

Ok I have dr appointment tomorrow or should I go to emergency room tonight. Am I ok to carry on with normal
Activity ie exercise drink etc
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
Normal activity is fine and tomorrow is soon enough to get this taken care of
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
So pain in jaw and going up face nothing to be majorly alarmed by?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
Not at all--nothing as serious as a stroke or a heart problem
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Got someone bday drinks tonight camo drink
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
No problem but just have one or at most two drinks and no more
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
Ok why what dangers of more. If not shingles what else can it be I have no rash or spots
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 3 years ago.
Greg--I already told you that the pain of shingles can preceded the rash by a few days and I also told you about trigeminal neuralgia. Only one or two drinks since the last time it bothered your stomach. Now I've spent a good deal of time with you on this page so can I ask that you give me a rating now and then start a new page if you have more questions?
