Ken :

Hello

Ken :

I am Dr Ken and I will be helping you today

Ken :

Are there associated symptoms like - abnormal bowel movement/ blood in stool?

Ken :

Does pain increase with food intake?

Ken :

Is the pain at left upper abdomen or is it lower down?

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

it is just on left side of my tummy down the side but I am on holiday abroad with my daughter...

Ken :

I assume you do not have any associated symptoms - right?

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

no symptoms on my right side just started 2 nights ago .

Ken :

Let me explain a bit -

Ken :

Pain on left can be due to varied causes like

Ken :

Irritation of the stomach mucosa {due to increased acid secretion/ alcohol or spicy food intake/ infection}/ infection at urinary bladder, ureter or kidney/ ureteric or renal calculus/ infection at the descending colon {bowel loop}.

Ken :

In your case

Ken :

As the pain is not continuous {comes and goes} - I would think of

Ken :

Infection at the bowel or irritation of the stomach mucosa first

Ken :

Infection at the bowel is generally associated with symptoms like

Ken :

abnormal bowel movement/ blood or mucos in stool

Ken :

I meant mucus - typo

Ken :

as these symptoms are absent - Possibility of irritation of the stomach mucosa seems most likely

Ken :

As of now -

Ken :

Have a glass of cold milk/ TUMS or Gas-X. These should sooth the irritated mucosa.

Ken :

Have balanced diet, adequate fluid/ avoid alcohol, smoking or spicy food.

Ken :

Warm compress should also give relief.

Ken :

Few signs should prompt immediate medical evaluation -

Ken :

Sudden increase in severity of pain/ Associated vomiting or severe diarrhea/ loss of consciousness/ passing blood in urine or stool

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

it has calmed at min as I am resting on bed but should I think about going to hospital over here .

Ken :

As of now - I do not see a need to go to the hospital.

Ken :

If you see any of the signs I mentioned earlier than I would go to the hospital

Ken :

I am happy that the pain has reduced in severity as of now

Ken :

Our body has immune system which is capable of fighting infections or reducing inflammation

Ken :

Most of the times the body does not need any treatment to fight these

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

its calm but it is paniced me as I don't know what uit is and being over abroad

Ken :

I do understand

Ken :

Please do not worry, you will be fine. There is nothing serious going on in your body.

Ken :

Take rest and you will be fine

Ken :

Good luck

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

ok but if it flares up through today then go to hospital .

Ken :

If the pain is severe and is associated with - vomiting or severe diarrhea/ loss of consciousness/ passing blood in urine or stool - than go to the hospital

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

ok then I just I could not figure out why its come on like this as I thought it may of been muscular .

Ken :

Muscular may also be the cause. The muscular pain generally increases or decreases with a particular posture {when the sprained muscle is in action}. Warm compress should help sooth the sprained muscle and so will rest.

Ken :

As of now - Calm down and do not panic.

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

ok thank you

JACUSTOMER-2zg0435p- :

viber

Ken :

Wish you well
