Was drinking a smoothie and started getting a burning sensation

Customer Question

Was drinking a smoothie and started getting a burning sensation on my tongue while I was still drinking it. Have looked at the ingredients and haven't had a reaction to any of the fruit in it, although it has nettle extract in which I don't know if I've had before. Is this an allergic reaction to the nettle extract or is this a normal reaction to something containing nettle extract?

911DOC :

There is simply no way to answer this definitively without testing

911DOC :

the more important question is if your symptoms have resolved

911DOC :

are you feeling okay now?

911DOC :

are you having difficulty swallowing or breathing?

JACUSTOMER-10x10lzm- :

Tounge still feels like its burning and my throats starting to aswell. Can breath ok, swallowing is a bit painful

911DOC :

how long ago did you have the smoothie?

JACUSTOMER-10x10lzm- :

about 15-20 minutes ago

911DOC :

okay

911DOC :

so this is concerning

911DOC :

and I would not hesitate to get to the nearest Emergency departement

911DOC :

it is likely that this will pass

911DOC :

but as you probably know

911DOC :

'anaphylaxis'

911DOC :

is a life threatening allergic reaction that starts with symptoms 10-15m after exposure

911DOC :

typically includes symptoms of fullness in the throat

911DOC :

then difficulty breathing

911DOC :

nausea

911DOC :

vomiting

911DOC :

and death if not treated

911DOC :

the thing is

911DOC :

you can't afford to sit around and wait

911DOC :

to see if your symptoms will progress or not

911DOC :

you might well

911DOC :

go to the Emergency

911DOC :

and check in

911DOC :

and get better while waiting

911DOC :

but if you don't

911DOC :

you will at least be in the right place

911DOC :

were you to have true anaphylaxis

911DOC :

that they could give you the appropriate treatment

911DOC :

and save your life

911DOC :

JACUSTOMER-10x10lzm- :

ok, thanks I'll get someone to take me

911DOC :

great

911DOC :

if you have benadryl aka 'diphenhydramine' you might take it now

911DOC :

25mg

911DOC :

it is not the cure

911DOC :

but may help slow symptoms

911DOC :

do you have any questions about this for me before I sign off?

JACUSTOMER-10x10lzm- :

Is that the same as piriton?

911DOC :

no, but you could take that if you have it...

911DOC :

and go now to the ER
