My mother is 89yrs old, 90 in Feb. She has BCC cancer (infiltrative)

Customer Question

My mother is 89yrs old, 90 in Feb. She has BCC cancer (infiltrative) on her face type2 diabetes, hiatus hernia and global brain atrophy. Her Gp has just added Adcal D3 750mg tabs to her repeat prescription. I have just read that people with diabetes and cancer and poor kidney function should not take this supplement. What do you suggest?

Dr. David :

This is Dr. David

Dr. David :

Adcal chewable tablets contain the active ingredient calcium carbonate

Dr. David :

her GP most likely gave this to her because she was low in calcium level

Dr. David :

or she could be having stomach acid issues and the calcium carbonate can help neutralize stomach acid.

Dr. David :

I am a cancer doctor.

Dr. David :

I am not worried about the basal cell cancer on her face and the calcium.

Dr. David :

she should get a calcium level and have it monitored.

Dr. David :

but patients who have diabetes and poor kidney function can take calcium supplements and calcium antacids.

Dr. David :

are you going with her to her doctors appointments?

Dr. David :

I would find out what her calcium level is and continue to monitor it.

Dr. David :

hello?
